Nissan Sentra vs Altima Comparison
The Nissan Intelligent Mobility™ suite and Xtronic CVT® (Continuously Variable Transmission) make Nissan sedans a tempting choice. However, when you're trying to choose between two top sellers like the Sentra and the Altima, it can be hard to make a decision.
Courtesy Nissan is here to help Richardson, Garland, Addison, and Plano drivers out. Check out this Nissan Sentra vs. Altima comparison to decide which one you should take for a test drive!
If You're Concerned About Space
The main difference between these two cars is a matter of size. The 2019 Nissan Sentra is a compact sedan, making it a great choice for your daily commute. Its small design allows you to fit in smaller parking spaces or other tight spots.
The Sentra offers up to 95.9 cubic feet of total passenger space and has a 15.1-cubic-foot trunk.
The 2019 Nissan Altima, meanwhile, is a midsize sedan. With its larger size, it offers a little more cabin and cargo space, which can be helpful for those family road trips. There's 100.8 cubic feet of passenger space and 15.4 cubic feet of trunk space in the Altima.
If You're A Style Guru
The Sentra and Altima have several similarities when it comes to exterior style. Both sedans come with a V-motion grille, which features a honeycomb pattern. Compared to the small, sporty grille in the Sentra, the Altima has a deeper and more aggressive grille.
Inside, the trim options are slightly different-but again, the basics are similar. Both cars offer dark gray cloth and leather seating. One option to highlight is the available blue contrast stitching, which is exclusive to Sentra SR models.
The Nissan Sentra also has a 7-inch touchscreen display seamlessly integrated into the center stack. The Altima has a slightly larger 8-inch touchscreen. However, making it larger meant Nissan had to shift it above the dashboard.
Even steering wheel design has an impact on the overall interior style of a car, and both sedans offer sporty options. The Sentra has an available sporty steering wheel that was inspired by the high-performance Nissan 370Z®. The Altima, meanwhile, offers a race-car-inspired D-shaped steering wheel.
If You Want to Save Fuel
When it comes to fuel economy, the Sentra and Altima are pretty evenly matched. The Sentra is slightly better in the city, offering an EPA-estimated 29 MPG city/37 MPG highway.1 This is probably because its smaller size takes less energy to get moving when the light turns green.
The Altima, meanwhile, can get an EPA-estimated 28 MPG city/39 MPG highway.2 Its improved highway fuel economy is partly due to the Altima's more aerodynamic design. Once it gets moving, it takes less energy to maintain its speed.
If you look at combined MPG, however, both cars are equal. Therefore, most drivers won't notice a difference in fuel economy between the Sentra and the Altima.
