Nissan Rogue vs Mazda CX-5 Comparison
When you’re shopping for an SUV to drive around Richardson and Garland, you’re in good hands with either the Nissan Rogue or Mazda CX-5. However, the team at Courtesy Nissan wanted to find out which has more of what drivers in the Addison and Plano areas need.
So, we put together this Nissan Rogue vs. Mazda CX-5 comparison. We’ll reveal our winner at the end.
Nissan Rogue vs Mazda CX-5 Powertrain Comparison
When we compared the powertrain of the Nissan Rogue and Mazda CX-5, we were pleased to see that they both came standard with a 2.5L I-4 engine. They also both give you a choice between front-wheel drive (FWD) and a smart all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
One major powertrain difference we found between these two vehicles is the fuel economy. The Mazda CX-5 has the following EPA-estimated fuel economy with its standard engine:
- Mazda CX-5 fuel economy FWD: 25 MPG city/31 MPG highway
- Mazda CX-5 fuel economy AWD: 24 MPG city/30 MPG highway
The Nissan Rogue, on the other hand has the following EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings:
- Nissan Rogue fuel economy FWD: 26 MPG city, 33 MPG highway1
- Nissan Rogue fuel economy AWD: 25 MPG city, 32 MPG highway1
As you can see, the Nissan Rogue edges out the Mazda CX-5 in terms of fuel efficiency with both FWD and AWD. This may be because the Mazda CX-5 is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the Rogue comes with the Xtronic CVT® (Continuously Variable Transmission).
Instead of having set gears like a traditional automatic transmission, the Xtronic CVT® provides a nearly infinite number of shift points between the upper and lower limits. With this technology, the transmission further optimizes performance and increases fuel efficiency ratings.
Seating and Dimensions in the Nissan Rogue and Mazda CX-5
Both the Nissan Rogue and Mazda CX-5 have a cozy interior that seats five passengers. They also prioritize driver comfort with an available 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat that lets you find the perfect position for optimal visibility. Lumbar support also helps to reduce fatigue from your commutes to the office.
If want to get away on the weekends, however, you might be able to pack heavier in the Nissan Rogue than the Mazda CX-5, which give you the following trunk measurements behind the second row:
- Nissan Rogue trunk volume: 39.3 cubic feet
- Mazda CX-5 trunk volume: 30.9 cubic feet
What about if you don’t have any rear-seat passengers? In that case, fold down the second-row seats and you’ll have the following cargo area measurements:
- Nissan Rogue cargo area: 70 cubic feet
- Mazda CX-5 cargo area: 59.6 cubic feet
